Detours

LINK Light Rail Construction

Sound Transit’s Tacoma LINK light rail expansion project has begun and its impacts are being felt on and near many Pierce Transit bus routes within the City of Tacoma on the following routes.

Details

  • Pierce Transit Routes Affected: 1-11-16-28-57-102
  • Work is happening on the following streets:
  • Commerce to Stadium Way from South 7th Street to North 1st Street
  • North 1st Street from Stadium Way to Division Avenue
  • Division Avenue from North 1st Street to North M Street
  • Martin Luther King Junior Way from Division Avenue to South 19th Street

While much of this work is coordinated with Pierce Transit in advance, there are times that the multiple Contractors working on this Sound Transit LINK project are working in a location that will result in short notice detour that will possible impact a Pierce Transit bus route and or having a bus stop(s) being closed on short notice.

We always strive to minimize the impacts to our Pierce Transit customers, this is a large project that will be underway until its estimated completion time in 2022.

Tacoma Dome Station Parking Renovation

NOTICE!!!!

As early as November 26th East Garage Parking Level 3 will reopen for general parking. In months past we have close individual floors along with its corresponding vehicle ramp. This practice will change as we move to East Garage Parking levels 2 and 1. To maintain access from the 25th street entrance as well as the Puyallup Ave entrance the contractor will only close half a parking level at a time and its corresponding half of the vehicle ramp. The schedule is as follows:

East Garage Parking Level 2 north side (Puyallup Ave side) and north half of ramp will be closed November 26th and reopen approximately 1-1/2 to 2 week later.

East Garage Parking Level 2 south side (25th Street side) and south half of ramp will close following work on the north side around December 10th and reopen approximately 1-1/2 to 2 week later.

The contractor took advantage of the mild summer and has completed most exterior repairs. As a result, a few interior repairs were differed that will cause random closures in both garages for performing the work and safety.

Use extra caution and drive slowly for everyone’s safety. These changes are necessary as we continue to make progress on the much-needed Mid-Life repairs at the facility. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Allow for extra time to navigate around the construction in the area.

After 20 years of operation, Tacoma Dome Station is in need of repairs and improvements. We are happy to report that coming soon you will experience improved lighting, better signage, repaired concrete, fresh paint and a general clean-up at this important transit hub.

The extensive work will begin in February 2018 and take about one year to complete. During that time, approximately 200 parking stalls will be blocked off on a rotating basis to conduct the work. The affected stalls will shift throughout the east and west towers and impact each floor at some point during the project. Signage will be posted at Tacoma Dome Station prior to the work getting underway.

Since Tacoma Dome Station is already a very popular parking location, you may experience a more difficult time finding an empty parking stall while the work is underway.

Here are alternate parking options for you:

LOT 2 (#203051)
There is a daily pay parking lot to the west of Tacoma Dome Station on Puyallup Ave., under I-705. For lots 1 and 2, you may use “Call to Park” for payment. Download the free “CallToPark” app, visit calltopark.com or call 1-888-767-9037. Have your lot number and credit card ready. If using the app or web site, you may wish to set up your account ahead of time.

LOT 3 (#114487)
The Tacoma Dome is opening its “A” lot on East D St. and E. 27th St. to the public for monthly parking. People using this option should be aware that parking will not be available on some dates due to events at the Tacoma Dome. Those dates will be posted on site in advance. For more information about parking at the Tacoma Dome “A” Lot, please visit www.rpnw.com or call 253.627.4401.

Trip Planner Tips - Entering Locations

To create a trip plan you need to enter both a starting location (origin) and an ending location (destination). For information about stops, schedules, or service at a specific location, you only need to enter one location.

The Trip Planner recognizes most street intersections and addresses as well as many landmarks in Pierce, King, and Snohomish Counties. If what you entered is not immediately recognized, the Trip Planner will offer you a list of options. You can choose one of the options, but if your intended location is not there, select the "Revise Original Entries" link to return to the entry page and change the entries you have already made.

Addresses

  • You don't need to type in the city along with the address. The Trip Planner shows the possible city names as options if needed. City names are based on zip codes.
  • You don't need to type in St., Street, Ave., or Avenue, or similar street types. The Trip Planner shows the possible alternatives as options if needed. (Example: type 110 Jones instead of 110 Jones Boulevard.)
  • You don't need to type in the directional designations for streets, but if a direction name is part of a street name, you should include it. (Example: type 1000 Main instead of 1000 S Main. But type 1000 West Viewmont for 1000 West Viewmont Way W.)
  • Some streets and addresses are unknown to the Trip Planner. You may need to enter another nearby location, such as an intersection or a landmark.
  • You should not enter the suite number or apartment number.  Just the house number and street name (Example: type in 401 Broadway instead of 401 Broadway Avenue Suite 800).

Intersections

  • The "&" symbol is the only character used between two street names to show an intersection. (Examples: 1st & B, James & Madison)
  • You don't need to type in the city. The Trip Planner shows the possible city names as options if needed. City names are based on zip codes.
  • You don't need to type in St., Street, Ave., or Avenue, or similar street types. The Trip Planner shows the possible alternatives as options if needed. (Example: type Conifer & Jones instead of Conifer Circle & Jones Boulevard.)
  • You don't need to type in the directional designations for streets, but if a direction name is part of a street name, you should include it. (Example: type 3rd & Main instead of 3rd S & S Main. But type 34th & West Viewmont for 34th W & West Viewmont Way W.)
  • Some streets are unknown to the Trip Planner. You may need to enter another nearby intersection or a landmark.
