Transit Centers
Transit Centers are central, convenient connection points for several different bus routes. Connections are timed so you can usually transfer between bus routes within a short time. Transit centers have well-lit, highly visible shelters, seating and travel information.Tacoma Dome Station

Improvements are coming to Pierce Transit’s Commerce Street transit hub in downtown Tacoma. While making much-needed repairs and renovations, we are also upgrading the “Water Wall” along Commerce, which is past its useful life and no longer functional. This space will be transformed using art, color, lighting and natural elements. Above, on Theater Square (which serves as the “roof” to Pierce Transit’s bus tunnel below), work is underway, including cleaning and projects to make it a more versatile and pedestrian-friendly space. Bus service will not be affected during this period.
Spanaway Transit Center - Currently in Design
To improve service in the Spanaway area, Pierce Transit will be constructing a new transit center on Highway 7, a few blocks south of Walmart, and just north of Joint Base Lewis McChord.
This new station will extend Bus Route 1 service to the southern edge of the Pierce Transit service area. It will include a 32-car commuter parking lot, a kiss-and-ride drop-off area, a comfort station for transit operators and pick-up/drop-off for a variety of shuttle services.
When the Bus Rapid Transit service comes online in the next few years, it will offer the Spanaway area faster access to downtown Tacoma and connections to other parts of the region. As ridership grows, the project site will accommodate an ultimate build-out of 300 parking spaces.
The project is currently in design. Construction is scheduled to start late 2021, with the Transit Center to open in mid-2022. Click here to view the current site plan.
