Pierce Transit operates Route 63
between downtown Tacoma and Northeast Tacoma. The agency has also being paying King County Metro to extend their Route 903
into Pierce County, giving transit riders a direct connection between various locations in NE Tacoma (including The Center at Norpoint
) and the Federal Way Transit Center.
Ridership on the Pierce Transit-funded portion of Route 903 has been very low, with just 8 average boardings each weekday. Starting Monday, Sept. 23, Pierce Transit is eliminating funding for the Pierce County portion of Route 903 and using those funds to enhance Route 63 service. Beginning Sept. 23, Route 63 will be extended to reach The Center at Norpoint. Riders will also have three new weekday trip options: One departing 45th St. NE and Nassau Ave. NE in Northeast Tacoma at 9:08 a.m., and trips departing 10th Ave. and Commerce St. in downtown Tacoma at 1:50 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Route 63 will still intersect with Route 903 near the Pierce/King County line, giving riders the opportunity to transfer and make connections to other destinations. For details, visit PierceTransit.org/ServiceChange
