Temporary Closure
SR-512 Park & Ride

Starting June 11, 2018 for approximately four months.

Impacted Routes:

Pierce Transit Routes: 3 & 4
Sound Transit Routes: 574, 580, 592, 594
Intercity Routes: 603, 605, 612, 620
GO-JBLM: Route 2

After 30 years of operation, the SR-512 Park & Ride is in need of major repairs and improvements. We are happy to report that coming soon you will experience improved lighting, renovated shelters, repaired curbing concrete and new parking surfaces. While we have been able to do some of the lower-impact work already, installation of a new parking surface and concrete repair will require closure of the SR-512 Park & Ride for approximately four months, starting June 11, 2018. During the closure, those who usually park at the SR-512 Park & Ride will need to park in a different location and catch their bus at another spot. Here are some options for you:

  • During construction, there will be approximately 140 temporary, designated transit parking spots available at the south end of the Discount World parking lot, located at 11013 Pacific Highway South, about one-half mile south of the SR-512 Park & Ride. On-street bus pickup for many routes that currently serve the SR-512 Park & Ride will occur on Pacific Highway South near Discount World (both northbound and southbound trips). Please use designated crosswalks if you need to cross Pacific Highway South to your bus stop. See the map and chart below for specific routes served by this location and bus stop locations. When parking at Discount World, please park only in spots designated for transit riders.
  • About 220 parking spots will also be provided at the Lakewood Towne Center behind Barnes and Noble located at 5711 Main St. SW. Riders may catch Pierce Transit Routes 3 and 4 and Sound Transit Route 574 nearby at the Lakewood Transit Center. Customers using other Sound Transit or Intercity Transit routes can catch a free connector bus to the Lakewood Sounder Station to catch their routes. Keep in mind that the connector bus will only be provided weekdays during morning and evening peak commute times. If you have parked at Lakewood Towne Center, caught the free connector and returned midday, you will need to transfer buses near Discount World or at the Lakewood Sounder Station to return to the Lakewood Towne Center. See the map and chart below for bus routes you may catch at each location. When parking at Lakewood Towne Center, please park in spots designated for transit riders.

Connector buses will depart the Lakewood Towne Center at the following times weekday mornings: 4:10; 4:30; 4:51; 5:11; 5:26; 5:41; 5:57; 6:12; 6:27; 6:42; 6:57; 7:12; 7:27; 7:41; 7:56. Connector buses are scheduled to arrive at the Lakewood Sounder Station approximately five minutes before departure of the Sound Transit 592 route heading north.

    Connector buses are scheduled to depart the Lakewood Sounder Station at the following times weekday evenings: 4:15; 4:30; 4:45; 5:01; 5:16; 5:32; 5:47; 6:01; 6:18; 6:32; 6:37; 6:50; 7:05; 7:20; 7:25; 7:40.
NOTE: If the Sound Transit Route 592 is delayed arriving from Seattle, the connector bus will wait for the 592 to arrive before leaving for the Lakewood Towne Center parking area.

You may also want to consider these options:

  • Form your current vanpool/carpool at another location.
  • Start a vanshare group and take a van together to one of the alternative parking locations (piercetransit.org/vanshare).
  • Explore piercetransit.org or call 253.581.8000 for alternate bus routes, transit centers, Park & Rides and vanpool/vanshare options.

Trip Planner Tips - Entering Locations

To create a trip plan you need to enter both a starting location (origin) and an ending location (destination). For information about stops, schedules, or service at a specific location, you only need to enter one location.

The Trip Planner recognizes most street intersections and addresses as well as many landmarks in Pierce, King, and Snohomish Counties. If what you entered is not immediately recognized, the Trip Planner will offer you a list of options. You can choose one of the options, but if your intended location is not there, select the "Revise Original Entries" link to return to the entry page and change the entries you have already made.

Addresses

  • You don't need to type in the city along with the address. The Trip Planner shows the possible city names as options if needed. City names are based on zip codes.
  • You don't need to type in St., Street, Ave., or Avenue, or similar street types. The Trip Planner shows the possible alternatives as options if needed. (Example: type 110 Jones instead of 110 Jones Boulevard.)
  • You don't need to type in the directional designations for streets, but if a direction name is part of a street name, you should include it. (Example: type 1000 Main instead of 1000 S Main. But type 1000 West Viewmont for 1000 West Viewmont Way W.)
  • Some streets and addresses are unknown to the Trip Planner. You may need to enter another nearby location, such as an intersection or a landmark.
  • You should not enter the suite number or apartment number.  Just the house number and street name (Example: type in 401 Broadway instead of 401 Broadway Avenue Suite 800).

Intersections

  • The "&" symbol is the only character used between two street names to show an intersection. (Examples: 1st & B, James & Madison)
  • You don't need to type in the city. The Trip Planner shows the possible city names as options if needed. City names are based on zip codes.
  • You don't need to type in St., Street, Ave., or Avenue, or similar street types. The Trip Planner shows the possible alternatives as options if needed. (Example: type Conifer & Jones instead of Conifer Circle & Jones Boulevard.)
  • You don't need to type in the directional designations for streets, but if a direction name is part of a street name, you should include it. (Example: type 3rd & Main instead of 3rd S & S Main. But type 34th & West Viewmont for 34th W & West Viewmont Way W.)
  • Some streets are unknown to the Trip Planner. You may need to enter another nearby intersection or a landmark.
