VANPOOL

A Pierce Transit commuter vanpool is a group of 5 to 15 sharing the ride in a van provided by Pierce Transit. Pierce Transit owns, maintains, manages, insures and licenses its fleet of vans. Each vanpool needs a minimum of
5 riders, a volunteer driver, a volunteer back-up driver and a volunteer bookkeeper. Participants don't have to all work at the same place, but it helps to have start and end points that are near other riders.
The volunteer vanpool group determines its route and schedule, and most groups choose convenient park and ride lots or other meeting points to keep mileage and commute times at a minimum. Pierce Transit must approve the route and schedule. The origin or destination of each vanpool's route must be in Pierce County.
Monthly Fares are based on the number of average daily roundtrip miles traveled and the number of monthly passengers in the vanpool at the beginning of each month.
Community Use Vanpools such as Mustard Seed in the Key Peninsula area transport passengers with non traditional schedules to varying locations. Please call Pierce Transit for more information. |
