Transit complies with the provisions of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 and
the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 mandating
pre-employment, random, return-to-duty, reasonable suspicion and follow-up drug
and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive positions. This testing is required
under 49 CFR part 655.

Filing
of Application: Applications
must be completed in accordance with the directions listed on the job
announcement. Applicants are responsible
for the truth of all statements.
Misrepresentation and incomplete or inaccurate entries may be cause for
application rejection, removal from the employment list or discharge from
Pierce Transit service. Applications
must be received by Pierce Transit by 4:00 p.m. on the closing date. Applications postmarked by the closing date
may also be accepted. Applicants are
responsible for notifying Pierce Transit of any address or telephone changes.
Eligibility:
Candidates
who are successful in all stages of the selection process will be eligible for
appointment in accordance with the provisions of the personnel rules of Pierce
Transit. When eligibility lists are
formed, the eligibles not selected remain on the list for consideration for
future vacancies until the list is exhausted or expired. All appointments are contingent upon passing
the appropriate pre-employment tests.
EMPLOYEE
BENEFITS
Paid Leave: Full-time Pierce Transit employees receive 11
paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave and 12 or 13 (provisional union
affiliation) vacation days per year. Part-time employees receive pro-rated leave,
to include sick leave, vacation, and holiday pay.
Retirement:
All
employees of Pierce Transit are mandatorily included in the Washington State
Public Employees’ Retirement System. Disability retirement benefits are also
available for those who qualify. Upon
separation prior to retirement, employees’ total contributions are repaid with
interest. Employees are not covered under Social Security System except for a
1.45% payment for Medicare.
Insurance
Plans: Pierce
Transit employees and their dependents (including domestic partners) may choose
between two medical plans and two dental plans.
Employees may also participate in a flexible spending account for
eligible health care and dependent care expenses. Pierce Transit is
self-insured for its worker’s compensation program.
Matching
Deferred Compensation (457) Plan: All employees are eligible to participate in
a 457 savings plan. After completion of probation, employees are also eligible
to receive an employer match.
Tuition
Reimbursement: Employees
may participate in a tuition reimbursement plan for educational benefits.
EMPLOYMENT
Hours
of Work: Most
Pierce Transit employees have a 40-hour workweek; however, positions may
require shift work, overtime, and weekend work. Flexible schedules are
available in some departments.
Salary
Increases: Pierce
Transit provides for a regular progression of salary increases based on
satisfactory job performance for non-bargaining employees, and a regular salary
progression for most bargaining positions as negotiated between Pierce Transit
and ATU, Local 758.
Union
Affiliation: Job
classifications covered by union security provisions require union membership
and payment of dues and fees.
Probationary
Period: All
regular employees are subject to successful completion of a probationary period
of six months unless the position is listed as at-will.
