Transfers

On Pierce Transit and Sound Transit transfers are good for one hour past the time your bus reaches the end of its route. For example, if you took the Route 1 bus leaving Tacoma Community College at 6:05 am and got off in Downtown Tacoma at 6:27 am, your transfer would be good until 8:22 am — an hour after the bus reaches the end of the line at the Wal-Mart on Mountain Highway at 7:22 am

NEW: If using ORCA e-purse to purchase your fare, your transfer is good for two hours.

Pierce Transit transfers have a value of $1.75 toward local Pierce Transit fares.

Transferring From a Bus To a Sounder Train

Pierce Transit and Olympia Express riders who pay cash or use a ticket on the bus may obtain a transfer to be used toward Sounder fare. Bus transfers will be valid toward a single-trip ticket as follows:

Adult
$1.50
Youth
$1.00
Senior/Discounted Fare
50¢

Based on the value of your transfer, select a "transfer upgrade" at the Ticket Vending Machine to equal the full Sounder fare. Keep both the transfer and the upgrade ticket as proof of payment.

To be eligible for discount fare, passenger must have a disability (with RRFP card) or be a Medicare Card holder.

Transferring From a Sounder Train To a Bus

Sounder tickets are honored as a local transfer on Pierce Transit and Community Transit, and as a one-zone transfer on King County Metro and Sound Transit Express bus services on the date indicated prior to the expiration time indicated. On all buses, show ticket to driver upon boarding and surrender ticket to driver upon request. Sounder day, one-week, two-week or monthly passes are honored for face value during the day / week(s) / months(s) / year(s) shown. On board bus, swipe the pass through the bus farebox or show pass to driver. Sounder tickets and passes may be used for bus trips of greater value by paying balance due on board the bus.
